WestGrid Users Among 120 New Canada Research Chairs

Scientists based at three WestGrid partner institutions and currently using WestGrid resources to support their research were among 120 new Canada Research Chairs recently announced by the federal government:

  • Neil Branda - Simon Fraser University
    Canada Research Chair in Materials Science (NSERC, Tier 1 - $1,400,000)

  • Loren Rieseberg - University of British Columbia
    Canada Research Chair in Plant Evolutionary Genomics (NSERC, Tier 1 - $1,400,000)

  • Tian Tang - University of Alberta
    Canada Research Chair in Nano-Biomolecular Hybrid Materials (NSERC, Tier 2 - $500,000)

In total, the Government of Canada is providing $90.6 million in support to the newly awarded and renewed Canada Research Chairs. The Canada Research Chairs program invests approximately $300 million per year toward research in engineering and the natural sciences, health sciences, humanities and social sciences.
